Privacy Policy

Stockyard is a simulated ("paper") trading game. You build virtual portfolios with fictional money and compete with friends in private leagues. No real money is invested and no real securities are bought or sold. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and the choices you have.

Information we collect

• Account details: email address, username, optional display name, and password (stored as a secure hash by our authentication provider — we never see your plaintext password).
• Date of birth: collected once at sign-up to enforce our minimum age (13+) and to apply additional privacy defaults for minors.
• Profile photo (optional): if you choose to set one, it is stored so league members can see it. You can remove it at any time.
• Game activity: your simulated portfolios, trades, watchlist, league memberships, and league results. These are the product — they involve no real financial information.
• Notification preferences and push token: if you allow notifications, a device push token is stored so we can deliver the alerts you've turned on.
• Crash and error reports: when the app hits an error we send a diagnostic report so we can fix it. It contains your account identifier, the app version, and your device model and OS version — not your email, username, name, or anything you have typed.
• Safety actions: if you report another player we store the report (including the reason you write) so we can review it, and if you block a player we store your block list to keep their activity out of your feeds.

What we don't do

• We do not sell your personal information.
• We do not show ads or share your data with advertisers.
• We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
• We do not collect real brokerage, banking, or payment-card details.

How we use your information

Only to run the app: signing you in, showing your portfolios and leagues to you and your league members, delivering notifications you've enabled, fixing crashes and errors, and keeping the service secure. We do not use it to build a profile of you or to decide what to advertise.

Service providers

We use a small number of processors to operate the app, each receiving only what's needed for its role:

• Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage (hosts the account and game data above).
• Railway — hosts our background worker, which processes game data (prices, order fills, notifications) on our behalf.
• Expo — push-notification delivery (receives the device push token, and the text of the notification, which can include another player's username).
• Sentry — crash and error reporting (receives the diagnostic reports described above).

Market prices, company data, and news are fetched by our servers, and those requests include no personal information about you. Two things are loaded by the app directly from other companies instead: company logos, from a financial-data image service, and the pictures attached to news stories, from the news agency that published them. Those requests carry your device's IP address and reveal which stocks and stories you are looking at, but no account information.

Sharing within leagues

Leagues are social by design: members of a league you join can see your display name, username, profile photo, simulated portfolio performance, and trade activity within that league. Don't join a league with people you don't want seeing your game activity.

Data retention and deletion

We keep your data while your account exists. You can delete your account at any time in the app (Profile → Delete account), which permanently removes your account, portfolios, trades, and league data. Crash reports are not linked to a deleted account and age out on their own.

Children

Stockyard is not available to children under 13. Accounts for users under 18 get additional privacy defaults (reduced discoverability).

Security

Data is encrypted in transit, access is controlled with row-level security, and passwords are hashed. No method of storage is 100% secure, but we design so that each user can only reach their own data and their leagues'.

Changes

If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update this page and the effective date above.
